PARTICIPANT SUCCESS STORIES

Adam’s Success Story:
From Social Withdrawal to Community Engagement, Employment & Independence

When Adam first engaged with The Key Journal, he faced significant barriers to social participation. He was extremely shy and avoided conversation, which limited his ability to engage in everyday environments.

The initial focus was on building trust and creating a safe, low-pressure space for him to step outside his comfort zone. Through a combination of mentoring, journaling and gradual exposure to real-world settings, Adam began to open up and build confidence.

A key part of his journey involved regular visits to a local café. What started as minimal interaction became a consistent opportunity to practise communication in a familiar environment. Over time, Adam became more confident initiating conversations and engaging with others.

As his confidence developed, it extended into other areas of his life. He is now employed across retail and hospitality, attends regular driving lessons toward obtaining his licence, and engages more confidently in community settings. He has also developed greater consistency in routines and structured activities. What was once a major barrier-communication-has become a key strength, supporting Adam’s growing independence.

Key Outcomes Achieved

Adam has increased his participation in social and community settings, developed stronger communication skills and built the confidence to engage more independently in everyday life. He has also made meaningful progress toward employment and skill development, supporting greater autonomy and long-term independence.

Here’s what Adam had to say:

“The Key Journal is an amazing program. Mitch and Nick run a great program that combines physical workouts, journaling, and deep discussions about improving yourself- for yourself. I absolutely recommend it.”

Noah’s Success Story:

Building Confidence, Independence & Social Capacity

Noah initially struggled with communication, confidence and engaging in new environments. Attending his first Key Journal session was a big stet and one that came with understandable nerves.

From the beginning, the focus was on building trust in a safe, supportive environment. By matching Noah with a facilitator aligned to his personality and interests, a strong connection formed that helped him feel comfortable and understood.

What began as a hesitant first session quickly became consistent engagement. Through physical activity and journaling, Noah started setting goals and working toward them. A key turning point was his growing confidence in communication. Once finding it difficult to speak with others, he now engages openly – especially in supportive environments.

Over the past six months, Noah has:

  • Developed strong communication skills and confidence
  • Established consistent routines at the gym and home
  • Progressed toward studying and obtaining his licence
  • Built confidence to try new activities

Most importantly, Noah now approaches life with independence and self-belief that once felt out of reach.

NDIS Outcomes Achieved:

  • Increased social and communication skills
  • Development of routine and self-management
  • Progress toward independence
  • Enhanced confidence to engage in community and new opportunities

Here’s what Noah’s mum had to say

Testimonials

"Hi Mitchell and Nick. I met you a couple of years ago in the Wyong Mental health Clinic, you two were fantastic.
The journals you gave out were absolutely fantastic, I use mine daily.
I have recommended them to other participants I have met in the clinic lately.
I have also shown my support workers who think they are totally wonderful and have passed on your website.
I was extremely impressed with you two, wanting to help others in all ways.
Just know that you are both making a huge difference in the lives of so many.
I will continue to talk highly of you two."

"I had the pleasure of meeting Mitch and his Key Journal team late last year. I had been looking for a resource to bring on board to assist my client in her recovery from non compliance of medication for bi polar disorder. After listening to Mitch explain how the Key Journal works I knew this would be a good resource to help my client in her mental health recovery. My only worry was if Mitch would be able to connect with my client in her present state of mind.
From our first meeting I was impressed with Mitch’s care and compassionate attitude when dealing with my client. I could tell he was passionate about his work and that’s why my client responded so positively to him and the Key Journal journey. Mitch and his team mix a refreshingly good standard of work ethic with good old fashion fun and lightheartedness into their work and my client thrived on this. Mitch’s ability to be able to ‘change it up’ and roll with the erratic behaviours when they arose made all the difference. If something wasn’t working he looked outside the square. The Key Journal never gave up on her.
My client is now back on track and loving life and it’s all thanks to the dedication and hard work The Key Journal put in. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Key Journal and the amazing dedicated staff involved."

"My son Noah has been attending The Key Journal for six months. I remember the first day we met with Mitchell at our home; he spoke to Noah in an extremely caring way, which made him feel comfortable. Mitchell found the right trainer for him, and we were lucky enough to meet Jaydon. Noah's first session with The Key Journal was a nervous one, but he was willing to give it a go. He is now so comfortable and loves being a part of the gym. He has set many goals and achieved them with ease. Jaydon is caring, knowledgeable, nurturing, and best of all, treats Noah like a mate. Noah struggles to speak to others, but when he is with Jaydon, he chats up a storm about his favorite topic, WWE. Jaydon has WWE on the large TV every time Noah attends to make him feel welcome. Noah is now training at home, studying, learning to drive, and best of all, has the confidence to attempt new tasks.
Without The Key Journal, I do not know where Noah would be. We are so lucky to have found the team, especially Jaydon. We are so thankful for the journey they are taking Noah on. "

" The best support available creating healthy habits for physical and mental wellbeing
The impact that Mitch and the team from the Key Journal have had on my brother is incredible. They offer a complete whole approach concentrating not just on personal fitness but the mind as-well providing a holistic approach. This support is what has really made the biggest change in my brother’s life.
Mitch has been there for him when many would have left and really supported him to realise when he is making bad decisions and to help him build the scaffolding to create the foundations of a successful life. My brother has had hiccups along the way but Mitch is there at every step to help him be accountable, pick himself up and learn from his mistakes often reaching out to Ben out of hours to check on his progress.
Having the Key Journal as a constant support has been the biggest most positive influence on my brothers journey I can’t recommend them highly enough. "

Their commitment to engaging with me as a coordinator of supports and with my participants has demonstrated a level of dedication that goes above and beyond typical support services. It's clear that they are driven by genuine care, not financial gain. The video updates are exceptional, providing a comprehensive overview of how the supports align with NDIS criteria and how they are benefiting my participants. The growth and dedication I've observed in my participants is truly remarkable and beneficial for everyone involved. I wholeheartedly recommend the Key Journal team for psychosocial support."

“The Key Journal has been a game-changer for many of my participants within the NDIS space. It offers a structured yet flexible approach to building healthy habits around both mental and physical well-being. What truly sets it apart is its ability to engage even the most disengaged individuals — some of my toughest participants, who typically avoid supports, have not only used The Key Journal but found it genuinely beneficial. It empowers them to take control of their own journey toward better health and a more independent life. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for practical, participant-centered tools that deliver real impact.”
SOPHIE - SUPPORT COORDINATOR
"As an NDIS Support Coordinator, having my participants engaged with The Key Journal has been a fantastic experience from a COS perspective and for my participants. Not only is their structured program a standout, but what truly stands out is their flexibility in tailoring services to meet the unique needs of my participants. This adaptability has been instrumental in ensuring the best outcomes, especially when circumstances change. Additionally, this has led to fast rapport between my participants and The Key Journal staff, with great feedback and an intrinsic incentive to engage with the program for my participants.
The open and transparent communication with Mitch has made our collaboration smooth and effective. Additionally, the monthly progress reports provided by The Key Journal have been incredibly valuable from a coordination perspective, offering insights and consistency that are rare among direct support providers.
In short, the dedication to quality and personalised service from The Key Journal is next to none, and I couldn’t pose a higher recommendation."

“My experience with The Key Journal has helped me massively. Since starting, I have been achieving so much more on and off the soccer pitch. I’ve learned to remove mental barriers and just play football. I’ve become more mature, more confident in myself, and better able to deal with life’s challenges. Jaydon has supported me both mentally and emotionally and has always shown support and given helpful advice during hard periods. I would recommend The Key Journal to anyone serious about reaching their potential.”
